Hi Sue! I've never seen one, but they seem to be really wonderful birds! Your beautiful image has been featured by Wild Birds Of The World. L/F

Artist's Description

A large, Steller's Jay in the evergreen forests of the mountainous West. Steller's Jays are common in forest wildernesses but are also fixtures of campgrounds, park lands, and backyards, where they are quick to spy bird feeders as well as unattended picnic items. When patrolling the woods, Steller's Jays stick to the high canopy, but you'll hear their harsh, scolding calls if they are nearby. Graceful and almost lazy in flight, they fly with long swoops on their broad, rounded wings. Like other jays, Steller's Jays are bold, inquisitive, intelligent, and noisy. Steller's Jays spend much of their time exploring the forest canopy, flying with patient wingbeats. They come to the forest floor to investigate visitors and look for food, moving with decisive hops of their long legs. This image has been featured in the following - Thank You: Wild Birds of the World Wildlife - One a Day British Columbia Wildlife Photographers Chek TV - Photo of the day Destination BC

My love for what I do transcends anything else, which is why I always shoot ethically. I believe in hours of patience, not forcing the shot. I guess I just love animals and nature at the most basic level. I will photograph birds at Bird Sanctuaries where they are being either rehabilitated to the wild, or they have been injured, and would not survive full-time in the wild without a helping hand. I make sure the birds in these circumstances can fly free, with no barriers - but choose to return as they cannot hunt or survive by themselves. I now call Victoria, British Columbia,...
